Brief of 42

42 is a curatorial project presented in the form of postcards. In an era of fragmented information, personal narratives are drowned in the overwhelming tide of the internet, and people are surrounded by “correctness” and “standards”, leaving personal narratives and memories in obscure corners. Postcards, a relatively old-fashioned means of com- munication, are not as convenient as text messages and social media, and are now more often seen as souvenirs. Yet, postcards could record stories on a tangible entity that can be held in one's hand and passed on to others.

42 is such a project, which almost uneditedly collects 42 stories associated with specific objects and preserves these precious personal memories in a drawer-like slide box, waiting to be sent out or kept there indefinitely. It is an honor to listen to these stories in this way, and I sincerely hope these stories can reach more people, reminding everyone of the important place personal narratives hold in our cultural society.
