Buzi

“A buzi, also referred to simply as a bu, and also known as a chest badge or rank badge, is a round or square piece of embroidered fabric sewn onto the front or back of official robes during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The patterns on these badges varied according to the official's rank.

This particular one is a wall hanging and decorative piece in our home and has been part of our lives for 20 years. China, being the birthplace of silk, saw the rise of silk embroidery culture alongside the popularity of silk, making it an integral part of daily life. For someone like me, who frequently engages with Ming and Qing dynasty culture, it holds special significance.”
