“This is a gift I received during my university years from my best friend. Our childhoods were built around these Barbie movies. Back then, we still used DVDs and bulky televisions, and buying Barbie discs meant trying our luck at the supermarket. We wasted those sunny afternoons hiding in each other’s houses, going over the movie lines we knew by heart. Barbie was our favorite childhood entertainment and the thread that tied our bond as two kids. Today, it has come to symbolize our childhood itself and the special connection between us.

I was in college at the time, living in a crowded four-person dorm room. She mentioned seeing something on a shopping app that she thought would be perfect for me, so she bought it. I never expected the delivery box to be so large and heavy. After struggling to unwrap it in the dorm, it turned out to be a huge cube covered in Barbie patterns and bright pink colors. After my initial surprise, I was a bit perplexed — in this day and age, hardly anyone uses DVD players anymore. I received so many childhood DVDs; how was I supposed to play them? This question still has no answer, as I never played them even once, or took them out for that matter. They followed me out of the dorm after graduation and through a move to a new place. It's truly a shame they never fulfilled their intended purpose. But then again, thinking about it, such precious items, like a return to childhood, are invaluable. Just looking at the case brings countless memories flooding back. Perhaps their true meaning was never meant to be about playback.

On a side note, here's a funny anecdote: My roommates were incredibly jealous after I received the gift, and they all rushed to Taobao to try image search to see how to buy the set. In the end, they found only one purchase link. Upon closer inspection — Sold: 1.”
